The Community Brass Choir was organized in 2024 to provide area brass instrument players an opportunity to perform a wide variety of music available for brass ensemble, as well as to provide entertainment and service to the community. Music performed ranges from that of centuries ago to modern-day “show music” and jazz. An affiliated ensemble of the Washtenaw Community Concert Band, the group is conducted by Dr. Jerry Robbins, Conductor Emeritus of the Washtenaw Community Concert Band.
Community: volunteer players come from a variety of musical organizations and reside in and around the greater Ann Arbor area. Auditions are not required.
Brass: instrumentation includes the trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Occasionally other brass instruments such as the flugelhorn and the piccolo trumpet are used as well.
Choir: as with a vocal choir, multiple instruments play the same part, utilizing 16 to 22 players for most performances.
Organizations that book a performance of the Community Brass Choir provide an honorarium to the Washtenaw Community Concert Band, a 501(c)(3) organization, to help cover expenses.
